We believe that birth parents are often the most under-represented and under-supported members of the adoption triad. At Pact, we strive to acknowledge the grief of placing a child for adoption while recognizing this decision as a legitimate and responsible parenting choice. Pact is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve children of color in need of adoption or who are growing up in adoptive families. In every case, the child is our primary client. We believe that to serve the child, we must support and serve his or her birth parents by offering the very best resources to help them cope with a world whose attitudes too often reflect "adoptism" and racism. We are a multicultural organization; from top to bottom, our staff and board of directors are racially diverse and reflect all positions of the adoption triad. We believe that same-race adoption is easier for children and that transracial adoption can work beautifully. We believe adopted children and adults deserve as much information and connection to their birth heritage as possible, so that adoption can be something other than an either/or situation demanding a choice between one family or cultural history and another. We believe children thrive when they have the opportunity and support to explore all aspects of their identity.
If you are in the process of deciding whether adoption is right for you and your baby, we want to make sure you understand all of your options, whether or not you finally choose adoption. There are many elements to consider when you are facing an untimely pregnancy. Maybe you are just beginning to explore your options. Maybe you feel sure that an adoption plan is best for your child. Perhaps you hope for ongoing contact with your child after adoption placement or maybe you want to minimize your involvement. Whatever your feelings, we can help. We can help you consider and work through the complex issues of your pregnancy and we will respect your needs for privacy. We can also assist you in understanding your legal rights and can arrange for counseling, medical and legal services. And all our services are free to birth parents.
